DON’T BE ASHAMED IF YOU FEEL ANGER, RAGE or FRUSTRATION. ANGER IS NOT THE PROBLEM; it’s what you do with the anger that makes it a friend or enemy. In fact, if you don’t get angry at some situations, then that is a sign of a problem as well.
It is a rare occurrence to learn communication skills or conflict resolution in our families or schools, so we grow up using patterns passed down from relatives, friends and media that often lead to negative consequences for relationships, our health and our society.
The divorce rate is now up to near 50%, and in the USA, there is the highest homicide rate of all industrialized countries other than South Africa. There is now ample research proving that stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, which are activated with anger and frustration, aid in creating grave problems for our health. Heart disease is the number one killer in North America, psychologically influenced by stress and anger. Isn’t almost everyone you know worried about money, jobs, the economy, etc. So, we all could learn about how to deal with this very strong emotion in a creative manner.
BUT IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY!
ANGER COULD BE OUR FRIEND, A MESSENGER TELLING US SOMETHING IS WRONG, INVITING US TO MAKE A CHANGE FOR THE BETTER. And, we could learn how not to let anger poison our bodies and minds, which it can if left unprocessed in the form of resentment, rage, or long enduring hurt.
